KAYSVILLE, UTAH -- Veterans on Course (VOC) was started by the Utah Golf Foundation in 2016 to thank military personnel for their service and provide them with free opportunities to learn and play golf. The 2016 season included four events, one of which was at Davis Park Golf Course. Since then, Davis Park has been kind enough to host VOC every year, making the event on June 20th the fourth consecutive Veterans on Course at Davis Park.
The event filled to capacity with 60 active duty or veterans from around Utah. Davis Park Head Golf Professional Brad Stone, Davis Park Assistant Golf Professionals Zach Johnson and Taylor Laybourne, and PGA Professional Sue Nyhus provided an hour of golf lessons for those in attendance. Brad and Taylor taught the mechanics of a full swing on the driving range, and Zach and Sue taught a chipping clinic around the practice green.
Following the lessons, the VOC participants played a nine-hole scramble tournament on the front nine. Despite sporadic wind and rain, there were some low scores in the field. The team of James Hale, Pat Hale, Brent Lamb, and Linda Robles shot seven-under 29 dominated the day to claim the win.
Included in the competition were closest-to-the-hole contests on the par-3 holes, Nos. 2 and 7. John Gale clinched the title on hole 2 and Kory Rigby earned the W on hole 7.
All winners received two tickets to the David Feherty Live Off Tour at Kingsbury Hall on August 27th. The Utah Golf Foundation thanks Feherty's team for donating tickets to Veterans on Course. We truly appreciate their support.
The guest speaker during the after-play luncheon was Geoff Greig of Zone Athletic Performance (ZAP). ZAP focuses on the mind and the flow in the body that allows people to use athletic skills to their absolute highest level.
The Utah Golf Foundation would like to thank the men and women who attended for their service and sacrifice for our great country. Thank you for protecting our freedoms.
