Veterans on Course Northern Utah Season Wraps Up at Fore Lakes
TAYLORSVILLE, UTAH—For the second consecutive season, Fore Lakes Golf Course hosted the final Northern Utah VOC event of the 2018 season. In addition to an annual October Veterans on Course event on its Executive Course, Fore Lakes also hosts a spring VOC event on the Par-3 Course.
Forty military personnel of active or veteran status participated in an hour of lessons with PGA Professionals. Station one was a new, unique station featuring Fore Lakes Superintendent and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) Board Member T.A. Barker. T.A. taught the VOC participants all about green keeping and agronomy.

The driving range played host to station two, where Fore Lakes Head Golf Professional Jason Asplund and aspiring golf professional Greg Lemieux assisted the participants with their full swings.
The nine-hole shotgun tournament was played on the Fore Lakes Executive Course. Each team was made up of four players, and the format was a scramble, also known as best “best ball”. Closest-to-the-hole contests were available for participation on each par-3. The following veterans claimed the closest-to titles:
Hole #2: August Koenig
Hole #3: Carl Price
Hole #4: Spencer Bolingbroke
Hole #7: Kory Rigby
Hole #8: Barry Nygard
Hole #9: Shayn Jolley
The event guest speaker, Senator Todd Weiler, is a Republican member of the Utah State Senate. Weiler holds a bachelor's degree in business and a law degree, both from Brigham Young University. He lives in Woods Cross, Utah. Weiler was first appointed to the state senate in January 2012.

“The 2018 VOC season was amazing. All the courses, their staff, the pros, and the Utah Golf Foundation staff were incredible,” expressed VOC participants and Here’s2Golf.com bloggers Mark Coon and Philip Sievers. “Each and every event we attended was a success, a ton of fun, and a great way to be around fellow veterans. Thank you to everyone who supports this great program!”
The Utah Golf Foundation greatly appreciates the support of Fore Lakes Golf Course, including Head Golf Professional Jason Asplund and Superintendent T.A. Barker. On behalf of the UGF Board of Directors and staff, thank you for participating in both the Veterans on Course and Utah Youth on Course programs each year. And thank you to Senator Weiler for attending the event and speaking during the social.

The UGF also would like to thank the veterans and active military who participated in Veterans on Course this year. We truly appreciate the sacrifices you have made and are making for our beautiful country. Hosting VOC for you is the least we can do to thank you and honor you through the greatest game ever played. Thank you for your service!
