Veterans on Course Season Wraps Up as Utah Veterans Gather in Southern Utah

ST. GEORGE, UTAH – Following six events throughout the spring and summer months in Northern Utah and the first Southern Utah event at St. George City’s Sunbrook Golf Club in late October, the 2017 Veterans on Course season concluded with two events in Southern Utah. The Utah Golf Foundation’s program was, once again, a success. More than 170 Utah veterans participated in the program.

Veterans on Course (VOC) was started by the Utah Golf Foundation in 2016 as a pilot program to provide instruction and playing opportunities to military personnel of active or veteran status free of charge. Each event consists of lessons from PGA Professionals, a nine-hole scramble tournament and a social gathering with a guest speaker and awards following play.

SunRiver Golf Club was kind enough to host the veterans on Thursday, November 9th. Individuals from both Northern and Southern Utah gathered at SunRiver for golf lessons and a scramble tournament in absolutely perfect weather conditions. Following lessons provided by SunRiver Head Golf Professional Larry Ricketts and SunRiver Assistant Golf Professional Rick Allison, the veterans tested their skills in a nine-hole scramble tournament on SunRiver’s front nine. UGA/UGF Board Member Joel Welber met up with the vets during dinner to discuss next season’s VOC initiatives and thank them for their service and loyal participation in Veterans on Course.

Five days later, Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club hosted Veterans on Course for the second consecutive season. Per usual, all participants started the day with lessons from Entrada Head Golf Professional Andrew Hopkins-Payne, Trevor Wright, Zach Kelly and Doug Roberts. The veterans competed on Entrada’s back nine during the scramble tournament, admiring the gorgeous lava rock holes along the way. The event concluded with an Italian dinner at Entrada and a few words from Executive Director for the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development Val Hale. The UGF thanks Entrada and its members for hosting Veterans on Course once again. Your support of VOC is greatly appreciated.

The Utah Golf Foundation would like to thank all eight Veterans on Course hosts for your support this season. The veterans always have a wonderful experience playing new facilities and meeting your staff and volunteers. Veterans on Course is bringing positivity into their lives because of your loyalty, so thank you for taking this journey with us.

The 2018 Veterans on Course schedule will be released at utahgolffoundation.org and uga.org in early February.
