Sunbrook Hosts Veterans for First Southern Utah VOC Event of 2017

ST. GEORGE, UTAH—The first of three Veterans on Course events in Southern Utah took place at St. George City’s Sunbrook Golf Club on Thursday, October 26th. Veterans from around Utah traveled to Sunbrook for a chance to socialize with other military personnel and play one of Southern Utah’s premier championship golf facilities.

The participants were fortunate enough to play Sunbrook’s Black Rock Nine, named because of three holes being carved out of treacherous lava rock. The playing format was a nine-hole three- or four-person scramble that included two longest drive and two closest-to-the-hole contests. The top team won Utah Golf Foundation swag bags.

Veterans on Course (VOC) was started by the Utah Golf Foundation in 2016 as a pilot program to provide instruction and playing opportunities to military personnel of active or veteran status free of charge. Each event consists of lessons from PGA Professionals, a nine-hole scramble tournament and a social gathering with a guest speaker following play. The 2017 season schedule includes nine on-course events, six in Northern Utah and three in Southern Utah. Details for each event can be found on the Veterans on Course registration page at utahgolffoundation.org.

The final two Veterans on Course events of the 2017 season, SunRiver Golf Club on Thursday, November 9th and Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club on Tuesday, November 14th, are both open for registration at utahgolffoundation.org. The Utah Golf Foundation invites all active and veteran military personnel throughout Utah to sign up and attend. Contact Programs Administrator Megan Huntsman at (385)347-5009 or megan@uga.org for more information.

The Utah Golf Foundation would like to thank St. George City Golf Director Colby Cowan, Sunbrook Head Golf Professional Reed McArthur and Sunbrook Assistant Golf Professional Garrett McBride for hosting Veterans on Course. Your support of the UGF and its flagship programs is greatly appreciated.
