Fore Lakes Event Concludes VOC Northern Utah Season
TAYLORSVILLE, UTAH—Fore Lakes Golf Course hosted its second event of the 2017 Veterans on Course season on its Executive Course on Thursday, October 5th. A full field of 40 Utah active military personnel and veterans participated in the final Northern Utah event of the year.
Veterans on Course (VOC) was started by the Utah Golf Foundation in 2016 as a pilot program to provide instruction and playing opportunities to military personnel of active or veteran status free of charge. Each event consists of lessons from PGA Professionals, a nine-hole scramble tournament and a social gathering with a guest speaker following play. The 2017 season schedule includes nine on-course events, six in Northern Utah and three in Southern Utah. Details for each event can be found at utahgolffoundation.org.

The event kicked off with a few words from Gary Harter, Executive Director of the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs. Fore Lakes Head Pro Jason Asplund, George Gregory, Dave Terry, and Chad Johnson taught the basics of a full golf swing, chipping and putting during the lessons. The Fore Lakes Executive Course hosted the veterans during their nine-hole scramble tournament, and VA Recreational Therapist Dr. William Klinger “Dr. K”, who proved to be quite the talented singer/songwriter, provided the entertainment during dinner by singing his new song “Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden”.
The first of three Southern Utah events will take place on Thursday, October 26th at Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah. Registration is open until the end of the day on Tuesday, October 24th at utahgolffoundation.org. The final two Southern Utah events in November, SunRiver Golf Club and Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club, also are open for registration on the website.
