Entrada Hosts Final 2016 Veterans on Course Event

The members and staff at Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club were the gracious hosts of the Utah Golf Foundation’s fourth and final Veterans on Course (VOC) event of the 2016 season. Sixty veterans of all military branches and ranks, both active and retired, participated in the UGF’s first VOC event in Southern Utah on Tuesday, November 15th.

The event kicked off with an hour of lessons from PGA Professionals who taught the basics of putting, short game, and long game. The veterans then put their new and improved skills to the test during a three- or four-person scramble on the back nine of the Johnny Miller-designed championship track.

Following play, the veterans gathered in Entrada’s banquet hall to partake of hors d’oeuvres and listed to retired Marine Corp Colonel Dave Waters speak about his military experiences and about how the game of golf has positively impacted his life.

The Vets Club Depot, a program managed by The First Tee of Utah Executive Director Paul Pugmire, offered donated golf equipment to all participating veterans prior to the start of the event. Six veterans, completely new to golf, received their very first sets free of charge.

“It was very gratifying to see the support shown to the veterans,” stated Denis Hoerle, Veterans on Course at Entrada first-time participant. “The venue was spectacular, the golf was challenging, and the company was second to none. Everyone was a winner.”

Both Northern and Southern Utah will be the host of 6-8 Veterans on Course events in 2017. The schedule will be announced early spring of 2017 on uga.org, utahgolffoundation.org, and on all UGF and UGA social media platforms. Those who participated in at least one 2016 Veterans on Course event will receive an email with the schedule as well.

Thank you to all veterans who participated in the Utah Golf Foundation’s inaugural Veterans on Course season. The UGF thanks you for the sacrifices you have made to serve our great country. Your acts of selflessness and bravery do not go unnoticed, and we appreciate the opportunity to serve you in return. We look forward to seeing you again next season.
