Kim Hood
Secretary-Treasurer
HOME COURSE: The Country Club and La Paloma Country Club in Tucson, AZ
JOB TITLE: I recently retired as the Executive Director for the State of Utah Department of
Administrative Services after serving nearly ten years in that position and as a member of the
Governor’s Cabinet. I am an Economist by education.
FAVORITE GOLF COURSE(S): I have so many favorite golf courses that it is hard to choose one. Having said that, I will choose the Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii because that is where my husband and I spent our honeymoon. At the Mauna Kea, I came to understand that not only did I marry my husband but
I also married the game of golf. A magical combination.
FUNNIEST GOLF MEMORY: I recently played in a couples wine and nine where the local wine distributors set up beautiful wine tasting stations throughout the course. Being a wine lover, I was eager to sample the different wines. On about the fifth hole, there was a cement curb that runs along the cart path about 30 feet in front of the tee box. Unfortunately, the warmth of the wine was setting in and I hit my tee shot into the cement curb which then caused my ball to ricochet high above our heads and land about 60 yards behind the teeing ground. Today, we still tell that story and have a good laugh.
HOBBIES: I love outdoor recreation, and since I am no longer a runner, my activities include golf, hiking,
fishing, and skiing. I also love the arts, reading, cooking and gardening. My most favorite past time is spending time recreating with family and friends.
FAVORITE QUOTE: “Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots, but you have to play the ball where it lies.” -Bobby Jones
WHY SHE IS A UGF BOARD MEMBER: I am a UGF Board member because I love the mission of the organization and the game of golf. I am eager to give back to the community, engage youth in the game and support veterans through our programs.
